Green Sense’s annual “No-Air Con Nights” initiative returns for the 12th year on Friday. HKFP is a media sponsor.
The group urged Hongkongers to switch their air-cons off during the evening to promote more sustainable habits and to encourage an awareness of the universal need to protect the environment.
“This year, in order to link the use of air con with the outdoor temperature, we encourage the general public to pledge [to turn] off the air-con when the outdoor temperature is below 27 degrees Celsius,” a statement read.
High-profile participants this year include local actress Cecilia Choi and Director of the Hong Kong Observatory Chen Cho-ming.
Singer Futou Annie has also performed an altered version of one of her songs to promote the event.
Over 70,000 participants have already signed up to the event as of Wednesday. Eleven universities and 316 schools will also be taking part. Over 1,300 buildings and 224 companies and organisations have also pledge support for the initiative, urging residents and employees to take part.
