Registration for a lucky draw of 27,000 Cathay Pacific round-trip tickets opened on Monday – the latest phase of an Airport Authority ticket giveaway aimed at rebooting tourism after years of Covid travel restrictions.
Open to residents of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), including Hongkongers, the flagship airline’s terms and conditions stated that the website was only available in simplified Chinese.
Economy tickets from Hong Kong to 46 destinations in 26 countries are up for grabs as part of the “World of Winners” promotion.
In all, flights for half a million tourists and 80,000 residents are being offered to boost tourism.
Monday’s registration was aimed at residents of the GBA, with departures from Hong Kong. Travellers of any nationality can enter, though another round aimed at Hong Kong residents is set to roll out in July.
The GBA consists of Hong Kong, Macau and nine major cities in Guangdong province, and aims to further deepen the cooperation between the mainland and the two special administrative regions.
Destinations include France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The registration period ends next Monday. Winning tickets exclude taxes and surcharges, and applicants must be Cathay members.
In response to HKFP’s enquiries about the website’s language, a Cathay spokesperson said: “This particular campaign phase is designed to encourage people from the Chinese Mainland to visit Hong Kong, and also to travel overseas via the Hong Kong aviation hub.”
