Hong Kong Customs arrested a man over suspected smuggling after 40 mobile phones were found strapped to his body at Shenzhen Bay Control point last Thursday.
The 39-year-old was heading into the mainland. The 40 phones had an estimated value of HK$35,000.
“The batch of mobile phones was found strapped under his armpits and around his waist,” a Customs press release said.
The export of radiocommunications transmitting apparatus requires a licence. Those without a licence risk a year in prison or a HK$25,000 fine if convicted.

Police have vowed to step up checks on the border as post-Covid travel resumes.
