The Golden Rule plus free will creates fertile soil for those who seek power over others.  The individuals desire to be "Good" takes on new meaning.  Good can mean stronger, wiser, richer, better, or any of a plethora of ways that separates them from the rest of the mass of humanity.  This leads to toxic ideas.  It justifies taking advantage of others for personal gain.  It is the root that steals others strength, happiness, well-being and acceptance of one another.  Even in the face of this obvious flaw.  Humanity almost learned to accept and love one another.  Then the flaw surfaced, as it always does.  Yet this time its permanent without divine intervention.  Humanity driving itself into the Abyss is imminent.  I don't need to spend too much time convincing you of this.  It is obvious to the majority now.
