Hongkonger Kent Lam, 58; Torres Gonzalez Marco Valerio, 35, from Mexico; and Enriquez Anna Mae Justimbaste, 41, from the Philippines appeared in front of Judge Esther Toh for sentencing on Friday. They were earlier convicted by a jury of conspiracy to manufacture dangerous drugs.

Lam was sentenced to 29 years’ imprisonment while the other two were jailed for 28 years.

Senior Inspector Ng Lung from the police Narcotics Bureau told reporters after the hearing that 4.71 kilogrammes of methamphetamine was found at the defendants’ drug laboratory in To Kwa Wan in March 2019.

Ng said the defendants had “manipulated young people for drug trafficking” and this was one of the factors contributing to their long jail terms.

He said Lam had sent his daughter, who was 15 at the time, to accompany Valerio when the Mexican went out to buy equipment for drug production.

“We will absolutely not condone drug trafficking groups taking advantage of young people,” Ng said.
