The temperature on Hong Kong’s highest peak, Tai Mo Shan, dropped to 3.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning as the city feels the effect of a northeast monsoon nearing southern China.
Across districts, temperatures hovered between 14 and 19 degrees throughout the day. “The northeast monsoon is bringing cool weather to Guangdong,” the Hong Kong Observatory said.
“Locally, temperatures over parts of the territory around noon were about three to four degrees lower than those of yesterday.”
The weather station at Tai Mo Shan, which is 955 metres above sea level, recorded a low of 3.9 degrees, while the Tate’s Cairn meteorological station recorded a minimum of 7.1 degrees.
An easterly airstream is expected to affect the coastal areas of Guangdong, bringing rain patches to the city over the weekend and early next week, according to the observatory’s forecast.
