Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to drop to 7-8 degrees Celsius in urban areas on New Year’s Eve, and lower in the New Territories according to the Observatory.
With pressure over northern China rising, an “intense cold surge” is expected to affect the city, it said in a press statement on Monday.
The weather “will turn considerably colder this Wednesday and Thursday, with high winds especially offshore and on high ground… Morning temperatures will remain low in the following few days.”
It advised the public to prepare, don warm clothing and avoid prolonged exposure to wintery winds.
Temperatures are set to rise at the weekend, with highs of 18 degrees Celsius and lows of around 13 degrees Celsius.
