Hong Kong recorded 13 new Covid-19 infections on Friday, two of which were identified from the universal testing programme. Meanwhile, some social distancing measures have been relaxed.
Between last Tuesday and this Thursday, over 1.5 million Hongkongers have registered for the voluntary universal community testing programme. Including two new cases recorded on Friday, the scheme has picked up 18 new infections from the 1.3 million specimens tested.
Friday’s cases – which follow a triple-digit surge during July and August – bring the city’s total number of infections to over 4,900. The death toll stands at 99 in Hong Kong.
Group gathering limit raised
Several social distancing measures were relaxed on Friday, with most sports facilities – excluding swimming pools – as well as amusement game centres and Mahjong premises reopening.
Group gathering limits in public places were relaxed from two to four people. Restaurants may now operate normally up to 50 per cent of their capacity, though they can serve no more than four guests at each table, which should be at least 1.5 metres apart.
Mandatory face-mask wearing in all indoor areas, and on public transport and around outdoor areas remain in force, except in country parks.
