Cities surrounding the Three Gorges Dam in southern China have been submerged by floods. The floods swept away roads and paramilitary police have evacuated tens of thousands of residents. Continuously heavy rain since August 15 has damaged farmland and transport infrastructure in Sichuan. Chinese authorities warned last Wednesday that the region is facing its largest flood peak in history.
