As much as I love clash of clans, removing microtransactions from gaming is much better.

I'll gladly pay for the games i play rather than having microtransactions in them

That works fine for games in the old days. Buy the game once, then maybe a couple of expansion packs. However, those games didn't last for decades. They didn't get constant updates. And, big and, they didn't have the whole huge online component. New purchases aren't going to keep the servers on. There has to be a continuing revenue stream. The current clash model allows for many f2p players and paying players to enjoy the same experience. If you switch to everyone has to pay to play, you cut the player base considerably.

live service games can’t rely on that paywall scheme unless you want another world of warcraft where you pay for the game every month and on top of that you pay for every update

Micro transaction isn't really a problem imo, it's the shitty practices like gacha and fomo that needs to be banned

I really doubt that click baity shit like this has any substance. if you want to learn about laws go directly to the source and don't have some idiotic influencer tell you what to think. the guy's only interest is to get as many views as possible so he will always say anything that gets attention.

This isn’t true. The title is clickbait for views. The EU just wants to regulate the transactions more to be more fair and upfront

As of 2024, supercell had a gross revenue of €2.8 Billion. Not bad for a few mobile games. About 20%-30% of what they generate comes from a European customer base. I would say that the game as a whole will be fine. Their financial will definitely be impacted as they are loosing a size able amount of their clients. Considering how well they perform, even a hit like this won’t stop the train from going full steam ahead.

The question then lies is will shareholders be happy or will they push Supercell to get that lost revenue from that last 70%.

If supercell had a way of getting that lost revenue they'd already be doing it.

Great point, maybe on Clash Royale lol. I feel like they have always done a good job on not being sell outs for clash of clans. They will have to recoup some losses but don’t think they will attempt and get it all back from the other regions as that could have backlash and make them loose money instead of gain.

Yeah but let's say that they do rework this system to remove/reduce micro transactions, people outside the EU won't be happy that they still have to pay for features which are easier to get for players in the EU...

How are micro-transactions usually defined? Like obviously gem purchases and directly buying books or potions are, but are things like the gold pass and other "battle-pass" type purchases also considered micro-transaction?

The video is a bit exagerated but yes
