Hong Kong fast food chain Maxim’s MX has said it will no longer provide straws for iced drinks to dine-in customers starting next Tuesday.
The new policy will not apply to specialty drinks. The restaurant will still provide straws to customers who request them.
“We hope to go one step further in protecting the environment,” the chain said on its Facebook page.
It came after an announcement earlier this month by fast-food chain McDonald’s that it will start holding “No Straw Mondays.”
McDonald’s containers of plastic straws will be empty on Monday and their staff will not offer straws unless customers ask for them.
Fast food chain KFC also announced that it would stop providing plastic straws and cup lids to dine-in customers. The policy was first tested on July 16 and was made universal on August 23.
Food delivery service Deliveroo and Ocean Park also committed to similar policies in June.
