Please note that all of the labels I include here are used describe form, method and function, not aesthetics. My practice does not have any core or defining aesthetic value apart from my own personal preference for how the tools/curios that I make and procure look. All elements of my witchcraft are utilitarian in nature.

My Witchcraft: Founded on Familial Cunning Practice. Non-Lineaged, Non-Cochranian Traditional Magic. Practical/Non-Ceremonial Traditional Witchcraft. Black Book Traditional Magic. European Folk Magic + Folkloric Witchcraft. Commonplace Magic. Sustainable Magic. Handmade Magic. Service Magic. Animistic. Spirit Work. Spirit Flight. (In addition to my core practice, I also practice hearthcraft and various domestic magics.)

My Faith Practice: Independent Paganism. Unnamed Gods. Influenced by Dagger Period, Bronze Age, and Vendel Period Germanic and Nordic Faith & Practice. Mythic/Named Pantheon Venerated as Spiritual Ancestors and Mediators. Earlier Animistic and Cosmological Understandings Central to Worship. Ancestor Veneration. Land Stewardship.

This blog is the personal archive of @slewfootwitch (main blog). It is a space for less frequent, more personal posts such as journaling, personal records, deep dives of my personal practice, spirit work, and other original posts that I am less comfortable putting on my main blog. Not always literal. Not always linear. I do not post here very regularly, because I actually spend my time practicing witchcraft. All posts are queued/scheduled.

Anon messages are on. Please note, however, that I will not engage with messages that are upsetting to myself or may be upsetting to others; I do not “do drama”, even if it comes to my own inbox to find me; and I don’t respond to those acting in obvious bad faith.  I do not tolerate racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, any other form of bigotry, bullying, harassment, or targeted cruelty toward others. That said, I make liberal use of the block button as a tool to curate my online experience. If you find yourself blocked, it doesn’t necessarily mean I believe you’re guilty of any of the above.

The apartment is a lot more settled now. This week, I am focused on wrapping up the month-long blessing and warding routine that I've been working daily to clear out this house and bond with the spirits. Now that it's more settled and I have more energy for other work, I am starting to reincorporate other workings again and preparing to go back to work at the psychic chat line.

Divination, Omens & Reflection:

  • I have been working with my Tarot cards again, now that they are unpacked. I generally only work with cards professionally, but I've been doing divination with them to try to work out the next best steps in my work for the psychic line as well as other work. I have been mostly divining on best practices to keep myself energized and protected as I scale my business on the chat line.
  • I have also been receiving omens and dreams regarding navigating my personal and home protections as I tie up the loose ends on my month-long moving in routine, communing with ancestors, gods and hearth spirits to ensure that everything is handled and completed.

Rites, Spells & Workings:

  • set up my working altar
  • set up the last layer of wards and blessings
  • blessed the pots and pans
  • blessed the stove
  • blessed the heater

Witch-Handicraft & Ancestral Skills:

  • Finally made my looms
  • Unpacked craft supplies and set up craft area
  • Bought a used wax melter for small candle batches

Spirit, Ancestor, & Land Work:

  • Lots of direct work with spiritual ancestors
  • Communion with my primary Guardians

Study, Reading, & Research:

  • None this week due to unpacking and chronic illness/pain.

Inspired by similar posts by @banjeekuntd and @diceandwitchcraft. I have decided to start a weekly record/reflection of magical workings and other craft-related progress I make. Thanks to you both for being inspirations!

My primary magical focus for this week has been on hearthcraft and hearthkeeping. Since I moved into the new apartment, I have been focused on healing the spirit of the home from the time this land spent as a hospital, from the moving of the cemetery that used to be here, and from the previous tenants (who we have learned had a lot of instability and violence in the home). I've been working on bringing and settling the spirits that decided to join us from the previous apartment (in the same area), connecting with the spirit of the home and introducing myself to the spirits that cohabitate with us. I think this will be the final week that is exclusively dedicated hearthcraft; next week I'll be working on getting back into my normal magical routines and habits again.

Divination, Omens & Reflection:

I have done a lot of spirit-based divination with the house spirits/hearth spirits in the past couple of weeks. The images and impressions that I picked up were indications that the space felt it hadn't been cared for, that it had been void of love, that there were a lot of negative emotions attached to the recent residents, and that there had been an illness in the house. This week, everything I picked up on was confirmed by the leasing manager (who my wife is friendly with).

Rites, Spells & Workings:

  • set up and awakened the Hearth Altar
  • blessed the flat and set up more permanent wards
  • reactivated my gaze-averting onion bottle and added a new spirit with a new task to the spell
  • blessed the main bedroom to alleviate some of the aggressive spooky back there (yes, we have carbon monoxide detectors and all of our appliances are electric)

Witch-Handicraft & Ancestral Skills:

  • None this week. All of my crafting supplies are still packed up.

Spirit, Ancestor, & Land Work:

  • Healing work for the spirit of home (animistic) and the house spirits (traditional).
  • Collaboration with the family guardians.
  • Petitions to the Ancestral Mothers/Ancestral Caretakers to protect, heal and bring peace to certain family members.
  • Prayers for blessings and protection on my living family that has continued to practice our ancestral religion as well as the healing of those who have lost access to it but have retained parts of the culture, and prayers for continued blessings on my ancestors. (For this I use a personal adaptation of a traditional healing blessing.)

Study, Reading, & Research:

  • Working on developing personal curriculum to deepen my studies and make progress on rewriting my Black Book (which I removed all the pages from when I determined I had lost my roots). [Inspired by @midwestbramble]
