The temperature is to hit nine degrees Celsius for four consecutive days from Monday through Thursday next week owing to an intense winter monsoon.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, “a cooler northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong gradually.”
Due to the influence of a cold front that is expected to cross the south China coast later on Sunday, the weather “will become cold appreciably with a few rain patches over the region.”
“Cold weather will persist next week with morning temperatures of around 9 degrees over the urban areas,” it added.
There will also be a significant difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures in the latter part of the week.
The weather on Friday will remain mainly cloudy and cooler later at night, with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds.
The Hong Kong Observatory’s Chan Siu-wai urged everyone to take note of the weather changes next week when planning activities, and to care for children, the elderly and those who are sick as they are likely to be affected.
The government will open cold shelters should the Very Cold Weather warning be issued.
