Nobody was to be honest. Until very recently (past half century more or less), women in combat through history were generally not perceived as a sign of societal progress, but as a sign of military desperation of the side fielding them.
its uh... still basically that, unfortunately. The recently I believe you are referring to is not without hefty pushback and frankly seems to be at the point of deteriorating again.
I believe they were more motivated by some sort of sexism than lack of men, because they didn’t mobilize women, but made special women formations with volunteers– snipers, bombers, AA guns. I guess they thought women’s meticulousness was good for it, or something like that.
The Nazis changed that stance on factories in short order as soon as things started going South for them. It was a part of Speers economic reforms. Of course that only really delayed the inevitable, with the Western allies pounding their industry into a pulp by day and night strategic bombing.
What sad is that World War II video games just make up completely fictional women like Battlefield 5 and Call of Duty Vanguard when they can make missions based on real women like this her and the Soviet woman that drove a tank to avenge her Fallen husband

Estimates show she had 13-14 solo victories and 4-5 shared kills in her 2 years of combat history, and was one of the first of two female pilots who have earned the title of fighter ace. She went down August 1, 1943 and its theoried the one who took her down was one of the German fighter aces, Hans-Jörg Merkle or Hans Schleef
