Though Hongkongers may have enjoyed a sunny and warm start to the week, conditions are set to deteriorate as thunderstorms and rain are expected on Sunday.
The city’s chief executive election day will see a plunge in temperatures to a minimum of 14 degrees Celsius.
“Under the influence of an upper air disturbance, the weather over southern China will be unsettled with rain and thunderstorms during the weekend,” said the Hong Kong Observatory.
“A replenishment of the monsoon will bring rather cool weather to Guangdong early next week.”
From Thursday to Saturday, daytime temperatures are set to remain in the 20s. Mist and light rain patches are also expected.
The period of cooler weather comes after the Hong Kong Observatory in Tsim Sha Tsui recorded 27.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday afternoon – the highest temperature so far this year.
