Hong Kong’s Observatory has said that it expects to raise the T3 typhoon signal by Saturday evening, as Tropical Cyclone Pakhar closes in.

“Pakhar is moving relatively fast towards the coast of Guangdong. Local winds are expected to strengthen gradually tonight and tomorrow,” it said.

Days after Typhoon Hato hit the city, the Observatory warned of more potential  flooding and sea swells: “Pakhar will be closest to Hong Kong during the day tomorrow (Sunday) and skirt within about 200 kilometres of the territory. Local weather will deteriorate significantly with squally heavy showers tomorrow.”

Saturday will otherwise be very hot with showers and easterly winds later on.
