A man armed with a sledge hammer stole a ring worth HK$5 million from a jewellery store on crowded Nathan Road on Friday morning.
At 11:02am, the police received a report that a man had used a hammer to smash through the glass window of the 3D-Gold Jewellery store in Tsim Sha Tsui, before running away.
The police told HKFP that a ring worth HK$5 million was missing from the store.
Nobody was injured during the heist, which occurred in broad daylight.
CCTV footage obtained by Apple Daily showed that the suspect was dressed in black.
He hit the window with the hammer some six times over the course of seven seconds, before disappearing with the ring.
The police said that the suspect was around 1.8 to 1.85 metres tall.
They later retrieved his clothing, including a cap, black gloves and sunglasses in the bathroom of a nearby alley.
3D-Gold refused to comment on the incident.
