Tropical Cyclone Megi is expected to edge closer to the coast of southern China by the middle of this week, and come closest to Hong Kong on Thursday, the Observatory said on Monday morning.

With Megi currently moving towards Taiwan, the Observatory advised travellers to be aware of local weather reports.

Megi is expected to weaken to a Tropical Depression as it reaches Guangdong on Thursday, 400km north of Hong Kong. Maximum wind speeds of up to 45 kilometres per hour are expected.

Hong Kong will also be affected by an incoming northeastern monsoon during the middle of this week, the Observatory said.

The weather will be mainly cloudy with showers, heavy at times.
