Around 3,000 chickens were found dead in Jilin province, China, last week. The chickens, each weighing around three kilograms, were dumped into an empty space around 200 meters away from the Songhua river.
Authorities who examined the poultry said that it was dumped a few days prior and was destined for human consumption.
Representatives from the Chinese Centre for Animal Disease Control of the Fengman area ruled out the possibility of the chickens dying from an epidemic. However, they said that they may have died from poisoning and needed to be disposed of accordingly.
The chickens, weighing 9.96 tonnes in total, were transported in trucks to a treatment centre.
Authorities said that the chickens were not from the area, as there was no one was raising the species concerned in Fengman. They estimated that the the owner may have faced RMB10o,000 (HK$112,105) in losses.
