A Lingnan University lecturer suffered a chopper attack by two armed men on Tuesday night. The victim, 29, was rushed to hospital after the incident, where he remains. No arrest has been made.

The assault took place on Fuk Hi Street, in the Wang Chau area in Yuen Long at around 11pm on Tuesday. The victim, a Wang Chau resident, was making his way home.

The armed men ambushed the lecturer with knives, chopping his left arm and legs, according to local media reports. The men did not say anything during the attack.

The victim then walked home to seek help. He remained conscious as he was rushed to Pok Oi Hospital before being transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital.

Police said that the attack may be linked to commercial disputes. The victim’s family, however, said that they could not think of anyone who might want to hurt the victim. They believe the men misidentified their target.

The man’s brother told Apple Daily that the victim does not have any political background and had not participated in any political events.

Wang Chau has drawn media attention lately after leaked papers revealed the government held closed door meetings with rural leaders and subsequently downscaled the Wang Chau housing project, suggesting collusion between the government and rural powers.

A representative of a village to be torn down to make way for the housing project was warned by an anonymous caller to stop opposing the development plan earlier this month.

It is unknown if Tuesday’s attack relates to the housing controversy.
