28 years after the Chinese government sent tanks into Tiananmen Square, killing hundreds, perhaps thousands, of student demonstrators, Hongkongers gathered to remember the victims of the massacre.
Organisers estimated that around 110,000 attended the candlelight vigil at Victoria Park on Sunday night. Police put the figure at 18,000.
The vigil in Hong Kong is the only mass event in Chinese territory commemorating the brutal crackdown on the students who called for democracy and an end to graft in 1989.
The yearly vigil, organised by a group of veteran pro-democracy activists, demands justice for victims and also pushes for democracy in China.
