To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s transfer of sovereignty, Chinese state media outlet Xinhua has produced a new track praising the city’s “One Country, Two Systems” policy of autonomy.
It follows Xinhua’s hip-hop video promoting President Xi Jinping’s “Four Comprehensives” political theory released last year, and communist party mouthpiece People’s Daily’s rap song on the “One Belt One Road” political-economic strategy released in May.
The first verse of the new track introduces “One Country, Two Systems.” The second praises joint mainland-Hong Kong initiatives such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge and the links between the stock exchanges of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

One line goes: “The fifth chief executive [Carrie Lam] was elected, but the Central Government’s appointment is necessary.”
The track concludes with a list of Hong Kong’s shopping and tourist attractions.
The first chorus praises the flag of the special administrative region:
The bauhinia flag has a red canvas;
A red canvas that comes from [China’s] five-stared red flag;
The bauhinia flag has five stamens;
[Hong Kong] will be forever together with its motherland.
