Tuesday became the hottest day of the year so far as the Hong Kong Observatory in Tsim Sha Tsui recorded a high of 30.7 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
With a southerly airstream blowing into Hong Kong, parts of the New Territories recorded temperatures of 32 degrees.
Between 1981 and 2010, Hong Kong recorded average highs of 25 degrees and lows of 20.8 degrees in April.
Up until April 17 this year, the city has recorded average highs of 26.2 degrees and lows of 20.9 degrees.
Temperatures are set to drop later in the week with the arrival of rain and a cold front.
“Under the influence of an upper-air disturbance, there will still be a few showers over the coast of Guangdong early to midweek next week,” said the observatory.
