Downpours are expected from Monday to Thursday next week, following a brief respite from rain over the weekend.

On Friday, the Hong Kong Observatory raised the thunderstorm signal at 3pm and the rainstorm signal at 3:20pm. The warning signal was cancelled at 5pm.

“An intense band of thundery showers is affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong,” said the observatory.

“Gusts reaching 90 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.”

Northeasterly winds will bring a short respite of cooler and drier weather to the city over the weekend as temperatures fall to a minimum of 19 degrees Celsius.

But rainy weather is expected to return next week and continue until Thursday.

“Another relatively dry northeast monsoon is expected to affect the southeastern coast of China in the latter part of next week,” added the observatory. “It will become brighter over the region.”
