English former footballer David Beckham raised eyebrows on Saturday after he said he had enjoyed “a great 48 hours in China” in reference to his visit to Hong Kong.

“I like you, but sorry, Hong Kong is Hong Kong. We are totally different from China!,” wrote one Facebook user.

Another wrote: “We have our own government, currency, even football team!”

He later corrected his posts on Instagram and Facebook to read: “Great 48 hours in Shanghai and Hong Kong.”
