Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying thanked his supporters, after about a hundred attended a rally on Sunday highlighting his accomplishments during his term.

The rally, organised by the pro-establishment think tank Politihk Social Strategic, took place outside the Central Government Offices in Admiralty. Participants chanted “CY, I love you” and sang an altered version of “Stand by you.” They also brought placards saying “Justice is never too late” and “CY, I support you.”

Attendees included Chief Executive Election Committee member Pui Kwan-kay and lawyer Barry Chin Chi-yung, who is a member of the outspoken pro-Beijing group Silent Majority. They commended Leung for making many accomplishments during his term.

The organisers said Leung was a “good chief executive” and described lawmakers who threw glasses and cursed at him as “monkeys.” The rally lasted for about two hours.

Leung later wrote on social media that he was thankful for the support from Hong Kong residents.

“I will continue to commit myself to developing the economy and improving livelihoods. I will try my best to solve deep-seated issues for residents,” he said.

In response to Leung’s post, Politihk Social Strategic wrote on social media: “CY can really hear us. All the best to CY, Politihk Social Strategic, and Hong Kong.”

Politihk Social Strategic was set up in April to defend the rule of law and oppose Hong Kong independence. The group lost by a large margin in the Kowloon West and New Territories West Constituencies of the Legislative Council election in September.

One of its candidates, Jackson Kwan San-wai, subsequently filed an election petition against lawmaker Lau Siu-lai – who defeated him in the Kowloon West Constituency – but the court dismissed the case last month after Kwan failed to pay a HK$20,000 deposit.
