Independent lawmaker Lau Siu-lai was successfully sworn in at the Legislative Council on Wednesday before the session was suspended as chaos erupted.
Lau’s oath was rejected two weeks ago, as she read the pledge in slow motion and added words immediately after she finished her oath.
Only Youngspiration’s Yau Wai-ching and Baggio Leung Chung-hang have not been sworn in. Wednesday’s session was suspended after Yau and Leung stormed into the chamber, causing chaos as pro-democracy lawmakers tried to prevent security guards from removing the duo.
Yau insisted after the meeting that she read the entire oath in front of Leung, and that it did not matter whether Leung accepted her oath or not. “It is his responsibility to administer my oath,” she said. “I am a bit disappointed [about being kicked out].”
