Pro-democracy lawmakers are to escort the Youngspiration duo into the Legislative Council chamber again on Wednesday after independent lawmaker Lau Siu-lai takes her oath, i-Cable News has reported.
Lau was one of the five politicians whose oaths were not accepted on their first attempt. She was scheduled to be sworn in again the following week along with the others, but met with the walk out staged by pro-establishment lawmakers.
Lau’s attempt last Wednesday was also unsuccessful because the meeting was adjourned after LegCo president Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen barred Baggio Leung Chung-hang and Yau Wai-ching of Youngspiration from attending the meeting.
Apart from waiting for Lau to complete her oath, the pro-democracy camp will also wait for Kenneth Leung Kai-Cheong of the Professional Commons and Andrew Wan Siu-kin of the Democratic Party to present a petition requesting that a select committee be set up to investigate the HK$50 million payment from Australian corporation UGL Limited to Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.
It was reported that Baggio Leung and Yau Wai-ching would enter the chamber under the protection of pro-democracy lawmakers after the petition was presented. However, a Youngspiration spokesperson told HKFP that a decision has yet to be made regarding plans for Wednesday’s meeting.
Holden Chow Ho-ding of the pro-establishment DAB party said that the president has already made up his mind not to swear in the Youngspiration duo. “If they insist on storming the chamber… and violate the Rules of Procedure, I believe that it is very likely that the president would adjourn the meeting again,” Chow said.
