The High Court has rejected an appeal to overturn the convictions of four anti-parallel trader protesters, including a woman was found guilty of attacking a police officer with her breasts. Her prison sentence, however, was overturned.
The four defendants include 30-year-old Ng Lai-ying and her three co-accused, nicknamed the “Yuen Long Four.” They were arrested after taking part in an anti-parallel trading demonstration in Yuen Long at the beginning of March last year, and were later found guilty of police assault and obstruction.
Ng and a 15-year-old boy were convicted of assaulting Chief Inspector Chan Ka-po, while Kwong Chun-lung, 20, and Poon Tsz-hang, 22 were found guilty of obstruction. Ng was sentenced to three months and 15 days’ imprisonment. All of them appeared before the High Court to appeal their convictions and sentences last month.
The Honourable Justice Madam Barnes on Monday morning turned down the defendants’ conviction appeals, but allowed the appeals of their sentences, Apple Daily reported.
The prison sentence of Ng has been overturned, and the court has requested probation order and community service reports. The sentencing has been adjourned to September 26 and the four defendants will continue to be released on bail in the meantime.
