Over ten thousand people attended Hong Kong’s largest diversity and equality event on Sunday, organisers say.
Held at West Kowloon Cultural District waterfront, the third Pink Dot carnival was co-organised by BigLove Alliance and Pink Alliance.
Allies, friends, families and colleagues of LGBT Hong Kongers gathered to form an iconic human pink dot, which organisers say symbolises inclusivity and diversity.
Guests included celebrities Anthony Wong, Gigi Chao, Vinci Wong and Denise Ho, as well as politicians Raymond Chan and Cyd Ho.
Professor Alfred Chan Cheung-ming, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, said: “This is the first time for me to take part in Pink Dot Hong Kong. I am really pleased to see people from different sectors, age groups and nationalities all gathered in West Kowloon to support this meaningful event that promotes diversity and inclusion.”
Pink Dot moved to the larger, pet-friendly confines of the West Kowloon waterfront this year, after attracting over 15,000 people to its event at Tamar site, Admiralty in 2015.
Abby Lee, co-founder of gay group Les Peches and event co-director said: “We were glad to see that people loved it and that Pink Dot evolved from a fairly simple outdoor concert in the name of love to a true destination representative of the diversity of not only the LGBTI community but of our allies: friends, family and colleagues, even our pets.”
