The No. 1 Tropical Typhoon Warning Signal was hoisted at 10:10 Wednesday morning as Super Typhoon Meranti moves closer to Hong Kong.

The typhoon was within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong on Wednesday morning, but is projected to swerve north through China, missing the city.

According to the observatory, while chances of a Gale or Storm No. 8 signal are low, there remains a possibility that the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will be hoisted on Thursday night.

It is expected to rain in the city until next Thursday. Temperatures will vary between a low of 25 to 27 degrees Celsius to a high of 29 to 33 degrees Celsius.
