Fans are angry over Hong Kong model Chrissie Chau’s “deception” after she said she would play “the Hong Kong version of Pokemon Go REAL” live on Facebook. Rather than streaming the popular augmented reality game, she broadcast a version which was a little too real for their liking.
The model was seen in the live feed running around in a Pikachu costume with a cameraman who was playing the role of the Pokemon trainer. Chau explored the E-Max mall in Kowloon saying nothing but “Pika Pika,” the sound which the iconic Japanese character makes.
Pokemon Go gripped the world when it came out almost two weeks ago, but it has yet to be released in Hong Kong. No release date has been announced as of now.
Angry commenters blamed the marketing team for misleading people, with one saying “swindlers will never run out of ways to cheat you…”
Another said that the marketing team had problems: “At first, using this trend to market/play upon it is not a problem. The problem is that you mislead people with the topic.”
One angry commenter said “I don’t want to use a pokemon ball, I want to kill you with a stone.”
During the live feed, they sent angry emojis to Chau while Chau continued to explore the mall, taking pictures with shoppers, as well as completing missions – such asking shoppers to provide something with electricity, like a portable battery.
Another model, Hailey C., also dressed up as Charmander, another iconic Pokemon and frocklicked with Chau at times during her adventure.
