Don’t pack up the winter wardrobe just yet. Temperatures may dip to lows of ten degrees Celsius next week due to strong monsoon winds from the northeast, the Hong Kong Observatory predicts.

The cold snap is likely to begin next Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to dip to 14 degrees Celsius. By next Friday, the mercury may drop to ten degrees Celsius. Humidity will also be high and there may be clouds and rain, the Observatory says.

The Observatory told HKFP that “ten degrees Celsius is not unusual [for March]… the lowest temperature recorded for March was 4.8 degrees Celsius, in 1986.”

Fluctuating weather is also not unusual for the city. “Hong Kong is affected by the cold eastern air and the warm air from the south… Especially in Spring, these two cyclones will alternately affect Hong Kong and [the weather] will change very fast and very quickly.”

The Observatory added that the temperatures are still subject to change. “There is still some time until next Friday, and we will keep updating the temperatures in the meantime… there is a chance that it will go up or go down.” it said.
