Hong Kong has ranked 75th out of 157 countries and territories in the World Happiness Report 2016 published by the United Nations on Wednesday. The ranking examined happiness levels in different countries and territories between 2013-2015. Last year, Hong Kong ranked 72nd.
The report was compiled based on six factors: Gross Domestic Product per capita, healthy years of life expectancy, social support, trust, perceived freedoms to make life decisions and generosity. “Differences in social support, incomes and healthy life expectancy are the three most important factors,” the report said.
Hong Kong’s happiness was given a score of 5.458, slightly higher than the East Asian average of 5.288.
However, the report also said that Hong Kong’s happiness levels went down slightly between 2005-2007 and 2013-2015. The territory’s score decreased by 0.053.
Denmark continues to rank as the happiest country in the world with a score of 7.526, while the happiest Asian country, Singapore, ranks 21st with a score of 6.739.
