The policy of One Country, Two Systems, economic growth and support for the SAR government will all continue, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said, as he expressed his optimism about the future of Hong Kong.

“We believe that the Hong Kong government has the abilities and Hong Kong people have the wisdom to deal with complicated problems and situations facing Hong Kong,” Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Wednesday at a press conference marking the end of this year’s National People’s Congress meetings.

“Central government policies of One Country, Two System, Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong people, and a high degree autonomy have not and will not change,” he said.

Li added that Hong Kong’s growth relies on its own hard work, but people can seize opportunities presented by the growth in the mainland.

“As long as they are beneficial to Hong Kong’s long-term stability and the welfare of Hong Kong citizens, the Central Government will completely support the policies proposed by the SAR government.”
