A man, 38, was arrested on Friday morning for suspected involvement in the Mong Kok unrest earlier this month.
Organised Crime and Triad Bureau police officers searched the man’s flat in Diamond Hill, taking a shirt, a laptop, a walkie-talkie and an eye-patch, Apple Daily reported.
Hong Kong Indigenous, a localist group involved in the Mong Kok protest, has asked netizens to identify the man, saying they would provide legal aid to him.
The clashes broke out on February 8-9 over the government’s clearing of street hawkers. Dozens of police officers and protesters were injured.
Pro-Beijing group Silent Majority have applauded the police’s actions.
As of Friday morning, 73 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest, including Hong Kong Indigenous leader Ray Wong Toi-yeung.
The localist group was founded in the wake of the 2014 pro-democracy Occupy protests. They say they want to break away from old resistance methods and uphold Hong Kong values. While localists support democracy, they are better known for their anti-communist stance and close association with movements promoting the expansion of Hong Kong’s autonomy and independence.
