CCTV footage has showed that there was no suspicious conduct in the Legislative Council meeting room where faeces were found on the underside of a table and stained a lawmaker’s clothes.

At a meeting on Saturday, lawmaker Kenneth Leung Kai-cheong found that his trousers and shirt were stained by a brown substance, which he described as smelly and likely to be human faeces.

The meeting room had not been used for some days before the incident on Saturday and was locked, but the CCTV was recording all the time.

LegCo president Jasper Tsang Yok-sing said that its secretariat has reviewed the CCTV footage for some ten days before the incident.

Tsang said, “No-one was seen entering the room during the times that nobody should have entered, nor was there any suspicious behaviour under the table when anyone entered the room.” He said there was no evidence that the incident was intentionally caused by someone.

Tsang added that LegCo has sent the substance to two different laboratories to examine, and it would take time to cultivate bacteria to confirm whether or not it was human faeces.

LegCo is expected to receive reports on the substance on Thursday, he said.
