Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung returned to work today, after being admitted to hospital for intestinal discomfort last week.
Although he missed several public events last week, Yuen said his illness was not serious.
Yuen said that he did not feel well after an event on Monday, and arranged with his doctor for hospital admission on Tuesday.
Regarding the joint border control of the cross-border high-speed railway in West Kowloon, Yuen said examples from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and France were within the scope of study. “We are carrying out a very comprehensive study,” he said.
Yuen also said that while the bureau would consider relevant examples in other countries, it was important to make sure that joint-border control in West Kowloon must adhere to the Basic Law and “one country, two systems” principles.
Under Secretary for Transport and Housing Yau Shing-mu said the discussion between the Hong Kong government and relevant mainland bureaus had made progress, but time was needed for more studies.
The request for additional funding of the railway has sparked discussions on Hong Kong’s sovereignty if mainland officers were allowed to enforce laws at the West Kowloon terminus in the future.
