An explosion hit an oil refinery in suburban Guangzhou, Guangdong province on Thursday morning, triggering a fire.

Pictures posted on social media showed the blaze was visible from hundreds of metres away. Authorities said the blast occurred in an industrial zone in Huangpu district at around 7:10am, reported local media Yangcheng Evening News.

So far no casualties have been reported. The local government has said that the fire is now under control.

On Monday, a massive landslide in Shenzhen triggered the explosion of a major natural gas pipeline.
