Although the nomination period of the district council election ended in October, a banner for a new “candidate” has been spotted on the streets of Shek Tong Tsui in Sai Wan.
The banner of the number seven hopeful, named Matthew Chun, states: “We promise quality service and give you more space.” It was seen on Des Voeux Road West on Tuesday, yet there are only two candidates in the Shek Tong Tsui constituency and there is no number seven candidate.
Matthew Chun, originally from Australia, is actually a director and co-founder of a local storage company – for which the banner seems to be an ad.
He earned his fame on the internet in 2008 when he appeared in an ad wearing a yellow tangzhuang – a Chinese suit.
Since then, he has appeared in other ads for the company speaking fluent Cantonese.
Chan Choi-hi and Sam Yip Kam-lung are the candidates running in the Shek Tong Tsui constituency.
The election will take place on November 22.
