Dozens of people in Xinjiang took part in a contest to see which of them could chew their way to creating the best map of China from a round Uyghur flatbread, within a limited time.
The contest was held by the local government on October 1 to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, according to Beijing Times.
The newspaper said over 60 people of different ethnicities raced each other during in the outdoor event in Kuqa County.
The county is famous for its flatbread, known as Uyghur nan.
The authorities aimed to display the “glorious achievements” made by Kuqa in the past 60 years and local residents’ “love for the country and for Xinjiang” by hosting the competition, a local news website said.
