The death toll of a bus crash that killed ten visiting South Korean officials in northeastern China’s Jilin Province rose to 11 after the Chinese driver died in hospital on Thursday morning, according to Beijing Evening News.
Meanwhile, some relatives of the ten victims have flown from Seoul to Changchun, accompanied by officials from the South Korean Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs.
The bus, carrying 26 South Korean officials from a training institute affiliated with the Korean government, a Chinese driver and a tour guide, fell off a bridge in Ji’an on Wednesday afternoon. Nine officials were killed instantly; another died later in hospital. Early Thursday morning, the Chinese driver was declared dead in hospital due to severe brain injury.
The China National Tourism Administration has sent a task force from Beijing to Jilin to help the local government deal with the aftermath of the crash, the newspaper said.
