Byron Wan@Byron_Wan Hotel New Daishin (ホテル ニュー 大新) — known for its spectacular ocean views and the earliest sunrise in Japan (excluding mountaintops and remote islands) — and Daishin Ryokan (大新旅館) in Choshi, Chiba, were suddenly closed a couple of months ago. Many people have made reservations there for their New Year holidays and paid through travel sites — even after it’s closed — and are very concerned. But hotel management has been unreachable so far. A former employee said workers there hadn’t been paid since June and that’s why he quit. The two hotels were bought and taken over by a woman — who calls herself 清水 (しみず in Japanese) — for 2 billion yen (she didn’t specify the currency but presumably it’s yen) in 2024, according to a video she posted on Xiaohongshu (RedNote) in Apr this year (upper right video). On Dec 26, she showed up wearing a mask and sunglasses and was interviewed by reporters from various TV news channels waiting outside Hotel New Daishin (lower right video and videos in the next post in this thread). 1/n https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/society/general-news/20251225-300468/… https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp/news_society/articles/900180825.html?display=full… https://news.ntv.co.jp/category/society/15b90b8a771c4686a34ad7fb0c9c6251… https://fnn.jp/articles/-/979927… https://youtu.be/oQmgUj9VG3k?si=qiu3G9288JnRWQcy… https://youtu.be/5zXFii9oDAc?si=SOjzRL8BHx4OC9rp… https://youtu.be/dsvw3ShjPLw?si=whzuVxakf61R0cl4…The media could not be played.Reload11:36 PM · Dec 27, 2025·9,689 Views517316
