Nancy L. Hewett

On Friday January 6, 2023, Nancy L. Hewett of Ithaca, N.Y. passed away at age 86. Nancy was born on April 26, 1936 in Hollis, New York, to Austin and Helen (Gomez) Powell. She graduated from Jamaica High School and went on to earn a degree in education from Cortland State. For thirty years she taught first grade at Caroline Elementary School. Nancy is predeceased by her parents and her husband of over thirty years, Jack Hewett, and survived by her children, Pamela (Bob Maszer), Gregory (Tony Hainault), and Harold (Marta Perroni), as well as two granddaughters, Melina Perroni Moore (Brendan Moore) and Charlotte Nelson-Pierce, and a great-grandson, Mateo Perroni Moore. An accomplished and admired teacher, Nancy was inducted into the national honor society for educators, Kappa Delta Pi. She was also a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), which provides college scholarships for young women in need. Throughout her life, Nancy loved attending theater, whether on Broadway, at Ithaca College or the Hangar Theater, and she traveled throughout the States, Europe and the Caribbean. Her children will be holding a reception to celebrate Nancy’s life on Saturday, January14th from noon to 2 pm. We will have windows and doors open, and kindly request that you wear a mask.
