If you have a look at bou's twitter or skeb you see he draws much closer to Girls Garden's style. Even that one awkward commemorative illustration he did for Dimensions.

I'm at the point whee I'm honestly doubting that Kouki even wrote a lot of Alternative, he's done fuckall in the 20 years since then and now that he's actually back to doing something a terrible anime writer is adapting his script into writing.
I also have no clue what his plan is with Takeru becoming the protagonist again, the trilogy works because unlimited in his complete failure state. Wuxin made him overpowered as fuck, sure, but he also gave him crippling depression and a job serving Japanese Hitler.

To me, the point of TDA was never trying to achieve a happy ending, but rather using the situation to explore the new characters so that the reader would be attached to them if you ever use them in an Alternative timeline. Regardless of if the ending is happy or not, the original cast taking a backseat kinda makes telling the story pointless because we already know how Takeru ends up anyway. Doing stupid shit like 5x Susanoo's also just powercreeps Alternative retroactively when that is supposed to be humanity going all out.

Remember that Alternative had three writers: Tashiro Hayato who's stuck around even into Girls Garden while he got shut out, him, and Matsunaga Hokuto who disappeared after Alternative. Given how much kouki bragged about the coup arc there's no doubt he's the one who wrote all of that. You can also expect he's the one who started the story with Takeru waking up in his room and closed the story out with him crying in class. But when it comes to figuring out who did the best stuff in between those like the PTSD arc, that's a whole other story.

The whole debacle with Resonative makes more sense when you recall his stupid idea that the Total Eclipse anime was actually in the Unlimited timeline and on the Yui route. In that sense Resonative is likely to become the defacto sequel to Total Eclipse, the best selling Muv-Luv anime, which would explain why producers are giving him another chance he doesn't deserve, and fans of TDA are disregarded.

You know, Miki being S00mika's friend in Girls Garden makes a lot of sense. Sumika was buddies with Miki in the Extra days and is the most supportive of her out of all the girls helping Takeru get ready for his date in her route. If they ever had some actual time to interact in Alternative I wouldn't be surprised if Miki bonded with her quickly.

It also adds a new layer to THAT scene in Alternative. Close your eyes, newfriend who started with the gacha and stumbled onto this post. Instead of naively asking questions, the Superior dangling her corpse becomes an obvious evil S. O. B. completely sapient yet irredeemably sadistic taunting a fellow siliconian about thinking some carbon pet of hers he happened to pick up after making it roadkill could ever be a living thing. Trying to act as an interpreter was a joke from the start, from his standpoint all the questions Takeru tried to ask were S00mika's own. Not only was he aware of humanity's plans, he also knew exactly which girls S00mika liked the most and that's why Yoroi got a relatively humane execution while poor Miki was desecrated.

Tama's always been the silver medal of Muv-Luv heroines. Never quite the star compared to Sumika/Meiya but given some special attention here and there that elevate her above most of the other heroines.

Hi, I just finished Alternative chapter 6 and wanted to share a thought:
Something that really stands out in Muv-luv's writing is how the characters' kindness and wisdom always feel very genuine, but not as something global (the author's message itself in a direct way) but as part of their individuality, as different types of mentalities that some are indeed better or worse, but he always takes care to understand them and convey their validity, even if it is partial. These principles always seek to speak to the characters on a deep and human level. Even without critical flaws, there are many characters with little screen time or who lack mayor flaws that feel very human and real.
This was also noticeable in Extra, especially with Sumika and Meiya (and Marimo in Unlimited), but i feel it it had never reached this levels before.

Yup, but I feel the real key difference is that Takeru, even in Extra, is actually pretty mature (after the first few hours, anyway) and way more sociable than your standard Gundam protag. A lot of Gundam MCs are introverts or legit autistic kids. Like Amuro, he's super socially stunted because nobody cared about him. His only friend was Fraw Bow, and the show and movies (even The Origin) portray that relationship more like her pitying a lonely kid rather than a genuine friendship.

It's the same with Kamille, but he’s a hot-blooded, neglected teen rebelling against the system without really rationalizing what he’s doing, so he just suffers in the process. Even Domon Kasshu starts off as a silent, lonely guy because of his PTSD.

But Takeru, in all the Extra routes, he actually has the will to talk and try to understand his friends. Even though he plays a lot of video games, he isn't an introvert. Same in Unlimited or Alternative, from the start, he’s willing to share his thoughts, understand people, and socialize. Takeru isn't a victim of his parents sins or a societal outcast; he's just a normal guy (spoiled as we the spectators are).

Hell, I can only imagine some of the gundam protagonists changes should they have had role models like Marimo in their life. Definitely one of the benefits of the carefree life Extra took place in. Even if there was still wars, and still conflict and pain, the idea that a larger amount of the world populace gets to live in bliss and ignorance would lead to a kinder race overall.

Even compared to Gundam protags, Takeru also wasn't really 'forced', per say, to age too quickly. Rather the opposite, in that he had almost too much time to grow with a potentially constant alteration to his brain state. We can see what staying in one cycle does to him for too long in TDA, or even after a short time dealing with the problems head on, such as his return and responses to the Extra cast partway through Alternative.

The original TDA ending was never written because the writer had to focus on his real job
the version that was announced in 2019 and would become resonative was written and submitted to Anchor over 2 years ago, but they didn't do shit with it and development was stopped for over a year at one point.
Then at some point somebody at Anchor/Avex got absolutely fucking delulu and decided every future visual novel now also needs to be a real video game at the same time, so Resonative is now the second entry in the "tactics" series with the first one being a game that failed to meet its kickstarter stretchgoal.
During development of tactics 1 Kouki either got severe brain damage or was successfully gaslit by one of the retards over there, so even though he also wrote a visual novel script for that game they decided they should spend money to hire the fucking MLA anime script writer to cut it down and rewrite it because "video games can't have as much text as visual novels for pacing reasons"
That means you will never fucking read the 100% completed Resonative script because they have decided to go full retard in their attempt to become an actual video game developer

I know this may come as a shock to you but people generally like Alternative specifically because it's not solely about Sumika.

I was rethinking about it but you could probably do Muv Luv like this:
>MLE is 3-4 episodes and it's just a slice of life funny hijinks anime that introduces the characters and it's similar to Fumoffu.
>add only MLU intro where Takeru thinks its a dream and he goes to the school and he's all like haha what the heck is with the soldier dude.
>cut MLU completely or mesh it with MLA. Takeru's motivation shifts from "doing everything right" to looking for Sumika.
I feel like that could be more consistent then mashing all 3 games together. People are going to get REALLY autistic about mashing Unlimited and Alternative together...
