Duplicate a collapsible section? Duplicate a collapsible section?

Hello all, I am migrating from Workflowy. It is not as easy as I thought now that I am playing around in UpNote. But I'm trying (I have 7 years of notes in Workflowy).

One issue I am having is the ability to duplicate a collapsible section. My use case for this is that I have weekly meetings that I take notes on. My workflow consists of opening a new section that is a duplicate of last weeks meeting, retitling it as this week, and then making my updates for the minutes of meeting. That way I have a running list of all of the changes that occur week to week. I like to use collapsible sections to accomplish this. Is there an easy way to duplicate a collapsible section exactly, so that all I have to do is rename it? I would like to keep all of the exact bulleted formatting that I have in the one that I am duplicating from.

Table Horizontal Scroll and Fixed Column Table Horizontal Scroll and Fixed Column

Wondering if there’s a usage approach that I’m overlooking:

I use table to organize lots of components of my workflow -

Example: key meeting summaries (action item, key decisions). Given the same structure for each meeting, I use a new row for each weekly session of the meeting series

Issue: some tables become a bit too wide (especially on laptop screen) so require a horizontal scroll. The issue is the scroll bar is tied to the table so I have to go to the bottom of the table, scroll over but then I can see the first column (date) to get back to the row I want. The general workflow of having to scroll to the bottom, scroll and then return is a bit annoying too

Thoughts / Suggestions?

Hitting {ENTER} inside a code block jumps to the top of a note with v9.15.1? Hitting {ENTER} inside a code block jumps to the top of a note with v9.15.1?

Hi,

I've updated today to v9.15.1 via the Mac App Store.

With that version before I had absolutely no problems when hitting {ENTER} inside a code block. It always created a new line, regardless if i was at the beginning of one or at the end of an indented one.

With the new version using {Enter} at the end of an indented line _always_ leads to the cursor jumping to the beginning of the code block. In most cases when I'm at the beginning of a line it will create a new line but sometimes it'll jump to the start of the code block as well.

Is it only me who has this problem?

How do you handle PDFs alongside your notes in UpNote? How do you handle PDFs alongside your notes in UpNote?

I’ve been using UpNote for a while now and really like how clean and distraction-free it feels for daily notes, planning, and long-form writing. One thing I’m still refining, though, is how to deal with PDFs alongside my notes. For example, when I’m studying or working on documents, I often need to highlight PDFs, extract key points, and then organize everything neatly in my notes. Right now, I usually annotate PDFs in a separate tool (I’ve tried a few, including UPDF), then summarize or paste insights into UpNote. I’m curious how others here handle this.
Do you keep PDFs inside your notes, link out to them, or use a separate PDF editor and just reference key points in UpNote? Would love to hear what workflows are actually working for you.

Stalling on Lifetime Sub Stalling on Lifetime Sub

I'm stuck and sad and confused. Upnote is all I want in this type of app. BUT the lack of decent export AND import tools is the one reason I'm stalling on buying Lifetime. It feels disingenuous, like being trapped. Is their product not good enough to make people want to stay (which i believe it is) and also accept that people's needs change, and nothing lasts forever? What's the workaround? Or am I just way too much of an anxious archivist?

Question About How to Use UpNote Offline Question About How to Use UpNote Offline

{For this question, Please Note:: I have Long used UpNote PRO--for Windows.}

At the location in which I use UpNote, the internet has Recently started to go DOWN on a quite regular basis. {Hopefully, this internet situation will be temporary.} Yesterday, the internet Was DOWN and I Urgently Needed to work on my Notes—which, Of Course, are ALL in UpNote. I expected that this would be no problem since UpNote is Advertised to work fine offline.

But UpNote would NOT OPEN my {Vast Database} of Critically Important Notes!!

This was an Absolutely _HUGE_ PROBLEM for me because I was literally & TOTALLY BLOCKED from working—For HOURS!!!

Could someone please tell me:: Can I Use UpNote PRO for Windows Offline??!!! And, if “Yes,” what was I doing Wrong Yesterday?? –– Thank You!!

What limitations bother you? What limitations bother you?

I really love UpNote. I miss having a web version only because I can't access it at work except on my phone. I work in public accounting and take lots of non-client specific notes. I can't install UpNote on my work computer and it's not always feasible to write notes about a particular tax issue on my phone. I've gotten around it and make it work as best I can.

But the limitation that bothers me the most, maybe not limitation so much as missing feature is nested tags. The nested notebooks are fine but as a long term EverNote user I really miss nested tags. I've ended up using the nested notebooks like nested tags and I'm not particularly fond of that. I've found a bit of a workaround but I really miss nested tags.

Otherwise I really do love UpNote. I'm excited to start using the new Spaces feature but I really miss my nested tags.

If (when) the worst happens... If (when) the worst happens...

I use upnote extensively for note taking. I have it connected to google drive and it backs up automatically.

But when I look in google drive, the notes from upnote are not readable. I have also read that when downloaded you lose your file structure, as the notes are kept in backup, but not in order.

So when the worst happens and my laptop dies - if I download the upnote app, can I easily download the notes back onto the app, or am I going to have to spend hours tidying them all up? Should they be readable in google drive, is there an issue if they're not?

This, and the fact there is no web-based app, is a deal breaker for me, my laptop is old and going to die completely sooner rather than later!

Advice welcome please!

BUG: Test Selection Speed - UpNote Killer unless it can be fixed. BUG: Test Selection Speed - UpNote Killer unless it can be fixed.

Hello - so, on an android phone (S25) pressing a word in an UpNote entry with lots of text, and then dragging down to increase the text selection, causes the section to FLY to the end of the text. Hyperspeed.

On other docs like a GDoc do not have this behavior. They select at a reasonable and controllable speed.

Please fix! I do have a lifetime license but I will move on if this cannot be solved. I don't *think* it did this a month or so ago.

Thanks!

Alternative to Upnote backup Alternative to Upnote backup

While I believe Upnote is fantastic and thé ultimate note-taking tool for me, there's something that always bothered me: when I make a back-up, the file names of the markdown files are not straightfoward. I have no idea what file corresponds to what note.

I found out that there's actually an easier way:
-> go to 'All notes'
-> Select all notes
-> Export to markdown

This will export all notes to a folder of your choice where a subfolder with date and time in its name will be created. In it you will find all of your notes with the title as file name. If you open a note in a markdown editor (like Zettlr), you will have everything, including any images or files in the note (which are in another subfolder 'Files' and have the names you gave to them).

This would make it easier in the unlikely crazy event you would ever want to switch to another note-taking tool.

If you do this let's say once a month, you always have a back-up of all of your notes in a easy retrievable manner.

The only thing I'm note certain of, is whether it's useful in this case to enable "Includes additional data such as creation date, updated date, and notebook names". Anyone has any idea?

Any other tips with this are welcome.

Do you lose your notes if you cancel the monthly subscription? Do you lose your notes if you cancel the monthly subscription?

I've been using the free version for a few days now and so far, I think I like it enough to give the paid version a try but I'm curious to know what happens if I later cancel to go back to free. The free version has a limit of one notebook and 50 notes. So what happens to my notes if I have say 200 notes and 15 notebooks when I go back to free? Do they delete all my notes and notebooks? Do they delete 150 notes and 14 notebooks? Or do they block access to some/all notes?

How does it work?

Did you miss databases (former notion, capacities, etc, users)? Did you miss databases (former notion, capacities, etc, users)?

I've been trying to commit to switching to upnote. Mainly because when I am in other apps that do more things I get distracted. I just want my notes.

That said, I am struggling to let go to databases/collections. I don't use them for a lot of things, but for the things I do, boy are they nice, so I am trying to decide if this is a deal breaker for me.

Has anyone else struggled with this, did you end up combining tools, or just using upnote? How did you move the object like data into upnote? Just using tables and back links?

Appreciate any ideas or what others have done.

btw my main use case is I am an e-learning course developer and I previously used databases for a master course list that had properties like status, last updated, links etc. So I am not using a ton of crazy views, I just like being able to connect that 'meta data' to the note.

Swapping from OneNote - Need some recs Swapping from OneNote - Need some recs

PREFACE: I lost access to my Reddit account yesterday cause I hadn't updated my email on my account and Reddit locked it for possible spam. Contacted them but I don't have hopes that I will get it back.

Anyway, that made me realize that I can't keep my notes in a place where I could get locked out for some reason and then be locked out.

UpNote provides backups to Markdown and their upnote file so I feel safter knowing that I would (at least) have a markdown version of all of my notes.

QUESTIONS: Should I transfer all of my existing notes from OneNote to UpNote or would you keep them in OneNote and just start fresh?

If I did move them from OneNote - would I put them in a separate space or how should I organize it?

For reference I organize my OneNote like this

Should I set it up the same way?

Thanks in advance!

Format menu being covered up by keyboard on Chromebook Format menu being covered up by keyboard on Chromebook

This might just be something I haven't noticed before, but I don't think it is. When I use my Chromebook in tablet mode and bring up the keyboard, the format menu is covered up. This issue also does not seem to occur on Gemini or Chrome. This seems to only happen when my keyboard is docked...which I have almost 100% of the time anyway.

I have handwritten a lot of notes on my Chromebook, which is why I don't think I have seen this happen before. I was wondering if this was seen elsewhere and if there was a fix for it?

Anyone else having issues with formatting via menu (on Mac)? Anyone else having issues with formatting via menu (on Mac)?

Hi everyone, I haven't used Upnote much recently. Getting back to being organised and updated Upnote to the most recent version yesterday.

Today I'm finding that changing formatting by right clicking highlighted text or clicking on the three dots in a table isn't working, including inserting divider, inserting quote, highlighting text, editing a table including cell background colour and adding columns or rows.

Using keyboard shortcuts works, and I can pick up some of these quickly, but as far as I know they get quite complicated for tables like adding columns and I'm not sure you can use them to change background colours.

Thought I'd ask if anyone else is experiencing this as it's unusual for Upnote to have bugs/things not working. Thanks.

I don't know if UPNOTE gives me what I need. I don't know if UPNOTE gives me what I need.

I've switched from iOS to Android and I'm looking for something as similar as possible to NOTES. I've downloaded many apps, but so far the one I like most is UPNOTE since I can use it from my computer.

The use I'm going to give it is very simple: personal notes that I save day by day, nothing related to work or professional matters.

My only doubt is that I usually save some private documents with a password, and I'm not sure if this app is secure and if notes can be locked individually. I've read that for this, I need to put them in a "private" notebook with a password, but I would prefer to lock notes one by one, like iOS NOTES does.

Can you help me please? Thank you.

Request: collapsible headings Request: collapsible headings

Hi everyone, I've been using Upnote as my daily app for study and really think that collapsible headings could fit in the editor.

I know there is a collapsible section that works just great, however when I'm taking a note, the section not always fit as good as possible in the text. It could help the most when reviewing or writing because with the collapsible heading you don't get tons of information in your screen to see what you already have done.

P.S.: I know there also is a table of content in the information menu, but I think the collapsible heading could also be a way to help you organize. What do you guys think?

How many Spaces do you have and what are they? How many Spaces do you have and what are they?

I recently found Upnote and started using it for some projects. I absolutely love it. I bought the membership and immediately saw the benefit of organizing things by spaces.

Right now I have:

  1. General for many things

  2. Work for everything related to my day-to-day job

  3. Study for my Anki goals, what I want to memorize, what I want to understand, philosophy and similar topics

So I’m curious, what’s yours?

Does anyone use UpNote on Windows and have problems resizing the size of the app when it is snapped with another app?

I am trying to snap my browser with Upnote on the other half of the display, but when I try to adjust the ratio of each Upnote only has like 1-2 fixed ratio options. I want to be able to choose the length of each to be around a 60/40 or 70/30, but it doesn't allow me too.

After some advice from the more experienced users of UN please. After some advice from the more experienced users of UN please.

Ok. I get it I'm sold on UpNote having made the switch from being a strong user of OneNote for many years. It's now part of my PKMS and I really like it. That said, can anyone tell me please if there is a way to make SIRTING standard across the platform as some of my notebooks sort one way and some another and then pages are the same.

I am having to number 00, 01 etc but it seems each time I go into a notebook or sub section, I need to tell it to go A to B again to get them to show in my chosen order.

Am I missing something?

Thank you

Search can get redhibitory at times Search can get redhibitory at times

As the amount of notes and content increases, I find it harder and harder to find what I'm looking for . The search function could really benefit from an overhaul.

As it stands, it's not robust enough, and weirdly inconsistent in the way it finds stuff I'm not explicitly looking for, or the opposite (doesn't find what I mention word for word/letter for letter)

Granted I think im approaching 1 million words , which makes it harder , but still.

Is UpNote Built for the Long Run? Is UpNote Built for the Long Run?

It took me days to move all my notes from different note-taking apps to UpNote. Gemini suggested this app after I explained what I needed. I’m tired of excessive customization in Obsidian and Notion. I have a few questions for you:

  1. Is this the official subreddit?

  2. Can I trust you with my notes? It seems like you’re not a very large team. If you ever decide to sell the company, please give users some advance notice. I can’t afford to be locked out of my notes.

  3. Feature request: Locked notebooks should be encrypted at rest on the server. I understand that if you implement this, some features (like search) may not work. But I think it would still be useful to have an option to fully encrypt a notebook and disable those features only for that notebook.

UpNote devs could learn a lot from Bear app’s features UpNote devs could learn a lot from Bear app’s features

On the top of my mind:

  1. Collapsible headings, not just an option to collapse a specific section

  2. Collapsible headings in table of contents

  3. Linking to Headings from other notes

  4. A setting that allows the user to minimize all images. I have to minimize a ton of photos and they don’t snap in place so they are aligned, or of the same height.

  5. Changing the section’s heading should show what heading the current section possesses

And I was just getting started using the app. I don’t mean to undermine the devs’ work, it looks excelent. Maybe just a little bit more polishing

Any idea on upcoming features? Any idea on upcoming features?

Do you guys have any idea what new features are coming to UpNote? I was just checking the Evernote thread ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Evernote/s/OCCZGcaeDW )— Evernote is bringing a lot of new features. Obviously, Evernote is costly, and we all know why we use UpNote. For personal use, it’s absolutely the best. Such a simple app with such a beautiful note-capturing experience — no other app offers that at the price UpNote does

And sometimes, we all expect some freshness in the form of new features. If you have any idea about what features might be coming next, please share. Or if there are features you want to see in UpNote, please share your thoughts

For example,

  1. I’d love to have direct audio recording inside the app, with the ability to play those recordings back — which is not possible right now.

  2. Secondly, a way to organize templates using folders.

  3. Third, an improved search function.

  4. Fourth, like I mentioned in a Reddit post ( https://www.reddit.com/r/UpNote_App/s/UnCwcoNtTn )earlier, a more advanced note-linking feature.

  5. And AI. No, I don’t want in-app AI, because that would make the app expensive and UpNote wouldn’t be able to keep this pricing. Instead, I’d prefer an option where we can connect a third-party API or AI service to a folder or subfolder based on our preference and use it only for our specific needs.

Let me give an example. A couple of months ago, I tried something. I was on desktop mode, and I exported an entire UpNote notebook. Then I uploaded it to Google NotebookLM. Surprisingly, NotebookLM automatically created a mind map. I had around 250 notes. NotebookLM extracted common themes and even answered several queries — which actually helped me understand my own thought patterns. Something like this could be considered.

6. Finally, we can add tasks inside UpNote, but we can’t assign dates or times to them. If UpNote added date/time assignment and gave us reminder alerts at specific times, that would be amazing. I normally use Todoist for task management, but for project-related work where I need note-taking, I prefer keeping those separately from Todoist.

So that’s my thought process. Please share your opinions too

Bugs and questions Bugs and questions

Hello,

I'm using upnote and really like it! I have brought in about 1000 notes and find that upnote ticks a lot of boxes for me. I'm a former evernote user for 10 years.

I have a couple questions:

There seems to be a bug with text replacement on macOS. I have some text replacements I use on iPhone and they sync over to MacBook. So when I type "k" followed by a space it replaces it with "Ok 👍🏼". It's supposed to wait until you hit space but in upnote it doesn't. (I also found out just now that it doesn't wait for the space in reddit) I think this is an electron bug but it's a pain. Any info on this bug? How long has it been a thing and is there an expected fix?

Also, I'm struggling with attachments. Sometimes they just won't open. I put pdf's in notes and sometimes a pages or numbers file also. Sometimes they open perfectly fine and I can edit them and they save back to the note. (This is a big deal to me in my workflow). Sometimes they just won't even open at all. I click the link and nothing happens.

Also, has anyone had an issue with attachments not loading on iPhone? I have some images that simply will not load on iPhone. They appear fine on MacBook.

Thanks for any help!

The 'notes containing words' customisable menu items are affected by flags set for *general* searches - is that sensible? The 'notes containing words' customisable menu items are affected by flags set for *general* searches - is that sensible?

I've just been wondering why none of the left-hand custom 'saved search' menu entries were working for me. They were all suggesting no notes matched the criteria.

Then I realised the current general search settings like"Search in title only", "Search in locked notes", "Match Word" affect the operation of "Filter all notes > notes containing words" entries. Surely once created those left hand menu items should behave consistently, not be based on checkboxes in another part of the interface for arbitrary searches?

Would I be able to successfully import 42k Evernote notes or what's the most anyone has successfully ever done without breaking anything?

It probably doesn't help that all 42k notes are in one Evernote notebook :(

Thinking of moving from OneNote to UpNote — what does UpNote actually do better? Thinking of moving from OneNote to UpNote — what does UpNote actually do better?

Hi all,

I’ve used OneNote for years across work and personal stuff, but I’m starting to feel like it’s become a bit bloated for what I need. I keep seeing people rave about UpNote, and I’m wondering whether it’s genuinely worth switching.

For anyone who has made the jump: What does UpNote actually bring to the table that OneNote doesn’t?

I’m especially interested in:

day-to-day usability

speed and reliability

organisation features (tags, hierarchy, search, etc.)

mobile experience

anything that surprised you after moving over

Not trying to start a “OneNote bad” thread — just genuinely curious why people prefer UpNote and whether it’s worth the hassle of migrating.

Would love to hear real-world pros/cons from people who’ve used both.

Thanks

Insert File View (Preview vs Link) Insert File View (Preview vs Link)

I recently switched to UpNote because OneNote and the others were doing my head in, and I'm loving it so far!

I usually just use UpNote on my phone but I tried it out on my laptop the other day and noticed the files I'd inserted via the mobile app were displayed directly in the note.

In the mobile app I can only get the inserted files to display as a link. To get around that I've been converting my documents to images and then inserting them, but now I'm wondering if there's a function/setting I haven't found yet. If not, how do you all insert/display your attached files?

I find myself wanting to switch between compact (title only) and regular (title & first line preview) views depending on what I'm doing, but having to click the 3 dotes, then "Display" then click the "Compact notes" box and click away to get rid of the box just to toggle is is clunky.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a dedicated button next to "All Notes", or is it only me who wants to switch back & forth?

Asking for a new feature-Display a section within the note Asking for a new feature-Display a section within the note

Hey team, I just wanted to share a suggestion — it would be great if, like in Obsidian, we could view specific sections within a note. Adding this feature in a future update would make navigation and organization much more efficient and user-friendly.

Right now, we can link a section of a note to a different note, but we cannot view that section within the new note. In Obsidian, however, by simply adding an exclamation mark (!), we can also display the section directly

—- Here is what i mean 👇

And in obsidian we can go further - https://youtu.be/vStUKrOEuRc?si=zxS6SMrqLmydr39W

Sync behavoiur offline/online two devices Sync behavoiur offline/online two devices

Hello Power Users,

I have a short question about sync behavior in the following scenario:

Device A (Notebook, offline because it’s on a train): I write a longer text in an existing note.

Device B (Android, online): Something is minimally changed in the same note.

Device A (Notebook, back online): The longer text is deleted after synchronization.

I’ve encountered this scenario a few times on the train now, and it’s very annoying. Am I doing something wrong, or is this intended behavior?

Thank you!

[Linux] Something keeps deleting UpNote.appimage? [Linux] Something keeps deleting UpNote.appimage?

Sooo, this is a weird one. I'm running Nobara linux (based on Fedora) w/KDE Plasma and have been using UpNote for months on it without issue, but in the past month or so I've run into weird issues where I click on the UpNote icon in my quicklaunch bar and it just doesn't launch. When I go looking invariably the UpNote.appimage that the shortcut runs has been deleted. This has happened at least 3 times in the past month now and I have no idea whether this is a linux thing or an UpNote thing.

If it helps, I keep my appimages in a weird place, ~/Applications, which is a symlink to /mnt/libraries/Applications (an old 512GB SATA SSD), which is a separate drive from boot/root. I dunno if this is specific to the appimage (I really don't like snaps, and would appreciate a flatpak release actually if the devs are listening), but if it keeps up I guess I'll try the snap and see if it fares better.

Upnote freezing on iOS after being in the background Upnote freezing on iOS after being in the background

I experience multiple times a day, that Upnote on iOS simply freezes, if it hasn't been used in a periode. I open it up, and am met with a white/empty view, and then nothing happens no matter how long I wait. If I then force quit the app, and restart it, then it works as expected, and is even freshly synced.

I use Upnote on multiple platforms, so I am not sure if this is a synchronization issue that somehow freezes the app view, since it is freshly synced the second I restart the app.

Does anyone experience the same problem?

But I couldn't find how the devs had responded, so I think they went 'silent' about that request.

I understand why the devs decided to do so, in some cases.

For example, providing Web version would require running 'web server' that hosts web version of UpNote, and it costs extra money. With only desktop and mobile version, the devs only have to take care about 'data server' that stores user data. The app would handle sync stuff itself.
This is understandable, 100%.

But I couldn't imagine why the devs decided to not provide Portable version. It is because of encryption, just like how Chromium (which Electron is based on) encrypts its data with Machine ID?

I hope the devs points out reason of why they decided not to provide Web version and Portable version.

Exporting notebook to a friend Exporting notebook to a friend

Great App that I have been using for nearly 3 years. I have a question :

What is the best way to export a single notebook with multiple notes, and which may have sub-notebooks, so that a friend who also uses UpNote can simply import it into his collection?

What about embedded PDF documents?

EDIT: I just saw this, which I guess answers my question - https://www.reddit.com/r/UpNote_App/comments/1okf0us/1_create_a_upnote_custom_file_type_for_upnote/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
