      So far, so good. Only through the first dozen or so experiments. My just-turned-seven-year-old grandson and I are having a good time with the SC Pro. He took to it right away, figuring out how to assemble the parts and how to make things work, without much if any reading of instructions. He pesters me to use it, and to use it WITH him, which is the best you can hope for from an activity that is on the healthy side of today's offerings for children.

      In response to some of the negative reviews I read before purchase:

      So far all of the parts we've used have worked fine. But we have yet to use all the ones included yet.

      Regarding the complaints about this product's lack of explanation about what the circuit is actually doing, I'd say this. As I mentioned, I've barely read any of the manual, so if electronic theory guidance is there or not I couldn't say for sure. My perusal of the text has yet to reveal any significant attempt at theory. But that's kind of my point. For a child within the age range this activity would appeal to, I'm not sure he/she would be interested in slowing down "building the next one" for a long explanation of what the circuit is doing. We hardly look at the text at all. Would it be great if all the theory was there, I suppose, I just don't think it would get read. I know a bit about electronics, and I tried to slow him down enough to explain how the electrons move and what they are doing and how series and parallel circuits affect results, etc, but he just kinda glazes over and is more interested in flicking the switch or starting the next experiment. And realistically, other than explaining how electrons move around a closed circuit, the amount of text necessary to explain how complex components do what they do (transistors, diodes, the enclosed sound modules, etc) would be quite large and cumbersome. I think that approach could do as much harm as good, in terms of keeping a young mind interested and engaged. Better to give them the exposure than to turn them off to it altogether by trying to cram too much information during a session that's meant to be fun.

      Will this product lead to a better understanding of electricity and electronics? Yes, definitely. Will it teach him how to engineer circuits and program IC chips, probably not. But it might spark an interest in such things that later in life would lead to more comprehensive study, within an environment better suited for learning such things (like a classroom with a proper teacher). I think the manufacturers of SC Pro have achieved the correct balance: exposure to something of this nature without making it such a chore that would only turn off a young mind to the possibilities.

      Now if only my old eyes could read all the little text on all the little parts! No worries, I have my grandson to do that for me!!

      Edit: In reading my review after being notified by Amazon that it had been posted, I noticed a rather large price cut. About $25 bucks, which is about 25% of what I paid. Did this seller nick me because I bought it just before Christmas? Supply and demand, I guess...

      This kit has been such a hit in our house. It’s incredibly easy for kids to use thanks to the snap-together pieces—no tools, no frustration. My child was able to follow the instructions and start building simple circuits right away.

      I gave this to my grandson for his 8th birthday. He absolutely loves it. He is very into how things work and loves science expiraments. When asked what he wanted for his birthday he said, and a quote, "scienc-y stuff!". The Snap Circuits board was the perfect gift.
      I love that all components snap onto the board. It holds everything in place and keeps it in order, it also makes it very easy to organize and put away.
      Both he and his five-year-old brother had a great time playing with this for hours!

      I have been eyeing this for sometime for my kids and when I saw this listed at an amazing price, very close to the prices available in the US, I grabbed it. It also reached me very quickly. Thanks Amazon.
      The product is designed to get kids excited about electrical / electronics around them. You could pull together a breadboard and several of these components at a much lower price. You would be still stuck with messy / a little unsafe soldering etc. or with ugly wires sticking around. While for some, that could be well be the 'charm' of 'rolling up your sleeves', I don't believe that is a great first introduction. Because much of the bandwidth will be spent trying to 'make it work'.
      Now this on the other hand, has really high quality board and parts. The manuals (there are 5 of them with this set!!) are clear and easy to follow. There is enough basic information on not just 'what' but 'why' you do them. For those who want more detailed information, you could easily pull more content online from the web.
      The way I chose to use it, was to get the kids (11 and 5 years) to pull together anything that caught their fancy from the hundreds available. They started attempting the very complicated stuff, but quickly agreed they would rather go in sequential order :-) The 'experiments' are organized in sequential order of difficulty / complexity. When they pulled it together, they got great satisfaction from making the bulbs flash / sirens beep etc. I would then ask them 'why they think it happened'. So without getting into complicated IC circuitry which would be above them, they started understanding the need for logical gates and how circuits work or computers 'think'. I then asked my 5 year old what logical 'gates' (OR, AND, XOR) etc. he would use for him and his friends to reach the play park and use various equipment (swing : only one allowed at a time, see saw : perforce needs two etc.) This was great fun for him and terrific learning as well. My 11 year old is now trying to seriously decide whether the 'oscilloscope' principle is best served for engineers or doctors.. and therefore what she should become when she grows up :-)
      Absolutely love it!! I wish I had these things when I was growing up.

      This I got as a gift for my partner. She is not technically inclined but the plans are easy to follow. Being able to build something that works and does something really encourages the user. It also gives me chance to explain what each component is doing to make the circuit work.
      If you have a kid interested in electronics or as in our case an older adult trying to learn about something new this is great.
      The kits themselves are well built and reasonably robust.
