Be honest, do you actually use your raspberry pi anymore or was it just one of these "projects" that gets abandoned?

I do use it pretty frequently, but just to play stuff on the tube TV at proper 240p.

Except that in this screenshot i was using a hdmi to composite solution, this is how it goes with actual 240p
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I have never bought it.
>>
I have a Docker cluster with 3 ARM SBCs.

One is a Raspberry Pi 5. It's garbage though, weak CPU, no hardware decoding, only H.265 decoding, generally inefficient. It also changed the location of PoE pins so most PoE hats in the market won't work. The redeeming qualities are good support and build quality but not worth it if you know what you're doing. I feel buyer's remorse over it.

I also have a Radxa Rock 5C and a Orange Pi 5 and they were a much better buy. The Rockchip RK3588S is a lot stronger, more energy efficient, has an NPU for motion detection of my cameras, HW decoding/encoding of H.264 8-bit and 10-bit, H.265, VP8, VP9 and a lot of other shit. They also follow the Pi 4 structure so more hat compatibility.

The Radxa is the best of the three, I wish I just bought 3 of them. I post this in case anyone is considering a Raspberry.
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I have it on my wall running an LED sign. Look.
>>
>>107628251
Love how the original pi had an actual composite out.
>>
>>107628332
Even the newer versions still have it, but you need to solder the wire directly etc..
The one i'm using is a PI3, and it has video and stereo out by the same P3 plug
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I can't find single usecase for this hardware.

actually the pi 5 has the best composite output quality

>>
>>107628385
Yep, i do have to use this "shader", it makes the picture a smidge blurrier but it is quite dire without it.
>>
I use it as a dns server (pi-hole) and a hotspot that routes all connections through a VPN. I also use it as a gateway to my VPS and expose a folder on it for file transfer through a reverse tunnel, so if I want to send something to a friend, I can just beam it to the pi and it'll appear on my domain
>>
one is a file server and the other runs home assistant
>>
>>107628502
what's the purpose of pi-hole? on a computer and phone you can just install adblockers
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
Had a Pi 1, almost immediately put it in a box somewhere until I found out about Pi-hole, but now it's back in a box somewhere since I can do the same thing in a docker container.
>>
>>107628628
No ads in mobile apps, and non-browser software cannot communicate with ad networks
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I use it as a solution for security cameras without the cloud spyware nonsense.
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I'm a cheapskate so I use orangepis running dietpi instead.
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
Never bought one. Bought a cheap mini PC instead with an N100.
Ran the math and that thing costs around 10 dollars a year to run for dedicated self-hosting tools. No need for a pi with something that simple already running.
>>
A thin client or mini pc is cheaper, much faster than a raspberry pi here
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
Be honest, are you actually curious? Or are you a meek and callous agitator faggot with no IRL friends and a desperate, fiendish urge to post agitprop bait slide threads with the fervor and wording of a triggered tumblrite feminist land whale?
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
got 1st gen B model (256mb) to use as htpc/video player for tv with RaspBmc. worked well enough but few months later fot a barebones Nettop (mini pc) and switched over to that as main HTPC. Have not used it much since
>>
>>107628744
who hurt you? I can't see how such a simple thread would make you this mad
>>
>>107628251
Great game, enjoy Terranigma next if you haven't already played it.
>>107628221 (OP)
I'm running an Immich instance off the only one I have. I wouldn't mind transferring that off an building a Cinepi or whatever the camera was called.
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
Nope, I have maybe 7 Pi 0Ws in a drawer and maybe 2 of the Pi 3s. At one point I really did use almost all of them: I treated them as low power single purpose machines: NAS, DNS, Jellyfin, reverse proxy, and multiple websites. It made sense when it was just 2 or 3 things because the Pi 0W uses like 2 W of power. But now I use proxmox for all that.

my mini-pc runs jellyfin and the arr stack
shit is cash honestly

>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I have a bunch of pi deployed all over the place. The most notable two are my pi 5 hosting a website and my pi zero 2 acting as a USB drive for the dashcam footage in my car (so that it can automatically back up footage to my NAS).

I never understood those..
like.. it is cheap and shit..

but I already have a free old computer that is way better than this.

and there are a lot of cheaper better options out there that does not look like a pcb

the only people who buy those are children / wannabe hackers
>>
>>107630534
you get em for the GPIO pins and hobby electronics, not as a computer replacement

and even there you could ask: bit expensive compared to an arduino or ESP32. but those can't boot real OS's, so that's the pi use case.
>>
>>107628221 (OP)
I have multiple
Active use as pihole and xmpp server.
Active use as security cam control board.
Active use to control a DIY signal amplifier

given how dirt cheap they are, i may buy some more

I do virtually never touch them, they run for years with industrial sd cards

I think it can be fixed with some crappy usb adapter but I know nothing about those things.

buying raspberry pi just to be a part of geeky culture is totally fine though.
>>
>>107630534
my problem with old desktops/laptops is that ithey draw multiple times the power than an SBC
>>
>>107630575
This

I put my pis out in the backyard running security cams and they sucked at that outside of being prototyping platform machines. Only cool smart guy I saw rock these was the bird watcher who stored files on parrot frequencies

>>
>>107628628
Some devices, like smart TVs, don't necessarily allow you to install adblockers. If you perform adblocking at the DNS level, it catches everything that passes through your router, including smart TVs, unrooted tablets, phones, etc. It also makes things snappier since you're saving yourself many, many megs of shit adnetwork traffic every day.
