SeaWorld Orlando is mourning the loss of 50-year-old Katina, the beloved killer whale who has been with SeaWorld for nearly 40 years.

In a recent social media post, SeaWorld announced Katina's health had "begun to significantly decline as she entered her geriatric years."

SeaWorld announced her passing on Sunday night.

"Over the last several weeks, our animal care and medical teams have worked around the clock to closely monitor her declining health, and as her condition worsened, the decision was made to prioritize her comfort and welfare," SeaWorld said on social media. "Despite everyone’s extraordinary efforts, she passed away while surrounded by animal care and medical teams who have worked closely with her for nearly 40 years."

Katina was described as having a big personality, known for sticking her tongue out.

"For many wonderful years, Katina awed and inspired millions of our guests to appreciate and learn more about this amazing species," SeaWorld said.

SeaWorld shared that this is a difficult time for those who knew and loved Katina and that they appreciate the support of the community at this time.

Flying with gifts for the holidays?

The American Automobile Association projects around 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Dec. 20 to Jan. 1. This forecast is higher than last year's record of 119.7 travelers.

Make sure your items are on TSA's "nice" list by searching on TSA's website or on its app.
For example, squirt guns, toy swords or other items that resemble realistic firearms or weapons are not allowed in carry-on bags, but can be allowed in checked bags.

Avoid wrapping gifts
TSA recommends people avoid wrapping gifts, since they will be permitted to open them if the item triggers an alarm. Instead, pack presents in gift bags or boxes.

Keep fragile gifts close by
For fragile gifts, keep them close in your carry on or personal item. Cushion them with soft clothes or bubble wrap to reduce damage while traveling.

Packing food
If you want to bring your favorite festive dishes home, solid foods like meats, pies and chocolates can go in a carry-on bag. However, liquids and spreadable foods like egg nog, gravy and preserves need to go in checked bags.
In general, remember TSA's 3-1-1 rule for liquids. Liquid containers should be 3.4 ounces or less, all containers should be packed in one clear quart-sized bag per passenger.

Bonus advice: Use a tracking device
For an extra peace of mind, pop in a tracking device like an AirTag in your luggage.

Road trippers are in for a holiday treat as the country continues to see some of its lowest gas prices of recent years.

In early December, the national average price of regular gas dropped below $3 a gallon for the first time since prices spiked in 2022.

It has remained under that threshold since, and was $2.90 a gallon as of Dec. 18.

What impacts gas prices?

Global events, natural disasters and seasonal demand all influence the price you'll pay at the pump.

Gas is generally cheapest in the winter because there's less demand, and it doesn't need pricey heat management additives that summer gas requires.

The price of crude oil has been stable this year, which in turn has led to stable prices for U.S. consumers.

The Edgewater Police Department arrested a woman accused of abducting two children she has been court-ordered to have no contact with.

The children were unharmed and reunited with their father.

According to police, Emily St. Clair took 7-year-old Eislee Kraus and 5-year-old Abel Kraus from their father's vehicle at a gas station in the 600 block of West Indian River Boulevard Sunday evening. St. Clair allegedly followed them and took the children after their father went inside the gas station.

Police said St. Clair has an active felony warrant for drug possession and a DCF court order prohibiting her from being in contact with the children.

She was last seen as a passenger in a newer-model Chevrolet SUV traveling southbound on U.S. 1 from West Indian River Boulevard.

The Powerball jackpot continues to rise after there were no big winners from Saturday night's drawing.

The winning numbers were 4, 5, 28, 52, 69 and the Powerball was 20.

The jackpot now stands at $1.6 billion for the next drawing on Monday night.

Powerball said Monday's jackpot is the fourth largest in its history and the fifth largest among U.S. lottery jackpots.

Although there was no jackpot winner, players should still check their tickets carefully, as many tickets won cash prizes in Saturday night’s drawing.

Nationwide, eight tickets matched all five white balls. The winning Match 5 tickets were sold in California, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan (2), New Hampshire and Ohio.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9.
