thanks, i think i will. after reading about it, it feels promising. i think the way they plan to do fresh servers occasionally and then potentially merge them later sounds cool. older mmos suffer from population problems and then try to compensate by making it too solo-friendly.

It's a 20 year old game with hundreds of different systems that the creators forget about throughout the various level caps it had. It has the typical late stage MMO culture of getting your ass to level cap as soon as possible while not explaining anything and throwing you head first into every single endgame system at once. For the first few hours you'll be one-shotting anything you look at funny and then all of a sudden you'll find yourself doing no damage at all. At its core the game is extremely simple but it can be very overwhelming to sift through all the bloat and legacy content.

It's P2W in the sense that you can look at a player and pretty much instantly tell whether they spend money on the game or not but you will not be locked out of any content if you don't shell out. All of the cash shop stuff is purchasable with gold from other players and ironically enough the main use case of spending real money is to get things you can sell to get more gold.

The current events are giving out some really good freebies so if you do want to start this is a really good time. It's just a difficult game to recommend if you didn't already play an older, simpler, version of it before or if you have no friends to help you get used to it.

Tried the server again with a new character in RS.
Noticed that the zombies were fast shamblers instead of regular as I could no longer outpace a horde of them in combat and multi-hit is turned off for no good reason.

Also the power and water are shut off in a multiplayer session. The only time you ever want to introduce the shut-off in MP is when your server sees over 24 concurrent users on average. You don't benefit otherwise across such a huge map with so few players.

It's kinda amazing to me how solid Des Moines still is for a ship that's been in the game since launch.
Amazing AP, consistent HE, great DPM, solid enough hull (even if everything overmatches it now), good maneuverability for an island camper, it's just an incredibly solid ship that still does work.

It's also an island cruiser so it suffers slightly less than open water flankers do.
Honestly I'd give it a tiny buff by moving DFAA to a separate slot so it gets hydro+DFAA like Worcester does.
